Brembo GT Front Big Brake System with Slotted Rotors for 12-Current Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8/SRT & Trackhawk
Since dissipating heat is the major purpose of the braking system, larger, more complex discs are employed to improve the system’s fade resistance. These discs have directional vents for better cooling and drilling or slots for better consistency, so the pad surface is constantly renewed.
The “floating” disc assembly typically consists of a cast-iron disc and a billet aluminum hat, two separate parts. One of the benefits is how much lighter it is. Because it is both unsprung and rotating, a large amount of weight can be saved by manufacturing the disc’s central component out of aluminum. However, the float itself is where you’ll get the most benefit.
The brake discs have to withstand high temperatures. Warping of the disc and cupping of the braking surface can occur when a disc is not free to float. The disc is bell-shaped and can maintain its directional accuracy when equipped with a full floating system.
